-ug word family worksheets

The -ug family is one of the smaller CVC sets — six words, not the eight or nine you get with -at or -ap — and that's exactly what makes it a good stopping point rather than a stretch. bug, hug, mug, rug, jug, tug all keep the same short-u rime and change only the leading consonant, so a child who can already blend b-u-g has effectively already solved hug and tug too; the phonics is the same, just the first sound.

Short u is also the vowel sound kids mix up longest, because it doesn't map to an obvious everyday word the way short a (cat) or short i (pig) does — u as in bug just has to be heard enough times to stick. Six rhyming words on one page, each traced and then written independently, is enough repetition to fix that sound without turning into a worksheet a kid resents.
