About -an word family worksheets

The -an family is one of the earliest rimes taught after -at, and for the same reason: every word is a single consonant plus the same short-a ending, with no blends or digraphs to slow a beginner down. Swap just the first sound and the word changes completely, which is the exact move a child needs to see to understand that words aren't memorized whole — they're built from parts that repeat.

This list also mixes word types on purpose: man, pan, fan and van are nouns a child can point at or draw, ran and can double as action words, and tan is a color word — so one seven-word sheet touches nouns, verbs and adjectives together. Each generated page traces every word once in solid ink, then again in a faded copy for independent writing — a natural follow-on once the -at family clicks, since the rime pattern transfers fast.
