Skip counting by 5s chart

Fives are the easier skip-counting set to teach because the pattern is already familiar by the time it's introduced: most children can chant 5, 10, 15, 20 before they can explain why. What the shaded chart adds is the visual proof — a column of gold squares running straight down the grid, so the chant and the pattern land as the same idea instead of two separate facts.

It's usually taught right after skip counting by 10s, as the harder sibling: the shaded squares no longer land in one tidy column, they alternate between the 5-end and the 0-end of each row. That's also what makes this chart the direct bridge to telling time in five-minute jumps and to counting nickels — both lean on the same 5-10-15-20 sequence this page puts in front of them.
