Writing Ruby in cursive
Ruby has 4 letters. In cursive the pen stays on the paper between letters, so the sheet is practised as one flowing word rather than letter by letter.
- The capital R is written first and, in most cursive styles, joins into the next letter. Trace the whole name in one movement, lifting only for dots and crosses.
- Tall loops: “b” reaches the top guide line. In cursive these become loops — keep them narrow so the name stays even.
- Loops below the line: “y” drops under the baseline and swings back up to join the next letter. The guide lines show how far the loop should go.
- Order of practice: trace the hollow letters first, then the dotted rows, then write Ruby on the empty lines without help. Most children need the print version first — cursive usually starts around Grade 2–3.

Ruby in cursive — questions
- How do you write Ruby in cursive?
- Start with the capital R, then write the remaining letters without lifting the pen, joining each one to the next along the baseline. The worksheet above shows Ruby in cursive on guide lines so the joins, loops and letter heights can be traced before writing it unaided.
- Is this Ruby cursive worksheet free?
- Yes. The PDF is generated in your browser the moment you click — no account, no watermark on the practice rows, and you can make as many copies as you need.
- What cursive style is used?
- A clear, joined handwriting style (the Cedarville Cursive typeface) that reads well at tracing size. Cursive letterforms vary a little between schools; if your child's school teaches a specific style, use this sheet for the joins and rhythm and check the school's letter chart for any letters that differ.
- Should Ruby learn print or cursive first?
- Print first. Cursive is usually introduced around Grade 2–3, once print letters are automatic. The print version of this worksheet is one click away above.
