The 50/30/20 rule — half your take-home to needs, 30% to wants, 20% to savings and debt.
About 50/30/20 budget calculator
50/30/20 is the most widely taught budgeting split because it is simple enough to keep. Needs are the things you cannot stop paying: housing, food, transport, minimum debt payments. Wants are everything discretionary. The remaining fifth goes to savings and to paying debt down faster.
Enter your take-home pay and the three figures are calculated for you, then printed as a sheet you can write actual spending onto. The gap between the plan and the sheet at month end is the whole point.
