A rubric that arrives with the grade is a report. A rubric that arrives with the assignment is instruction. This 17-page pack gives you both halves for all three K-5 text types. Each genre gets a one-page teacher rubric — narrative (story order, characters and setting, details, transitions, ending), opinion (opinion statement, reasons, evidence, linking words, closing) and informative (topic sentence, facts, organization, vocabulary and text features, conclusion) — scored trait by trait on the same 4-point scale, so a writer can be a 4 in ideas and a 2 in spelling and you still know exactly what to teach next. Behind every rubric sits a What Each Score Looks Like page that spells out all four levels of every trait in plain wording, so two teachers scoring the same piece land on the same number. Then the student side: a kid-friendly I-statement checklist per genre to hand out before they write, an editing checklist for grades K-2 (capitals, end marks, finger spaces, word-wall words) and one for grades 3-5 (run-ons, commas, apostrophes, homophones, paragraphs), a peer editing partner feedback form and a revision plan page that separates revising from editing. Three teacher pages finish it: a scoring-routine page that explains how to turn marked traits into one next step, writing conference notes, and a class scores grid that shows all three genres for the whole class in one look. Every page is undated and curriculum-neutral. The three text types are standards-referenced — they are the categories most K-5 writing programs use — but this pack is not affiliated with or endorsed by any standards authority.
